Prouver au football Français qu'il a le niveau de la Ligue 1 ! Voilà en quelque sorte l'ambition de Julian Palmieri depuis qu'il évolue au plus niveau avec le Sporting. Il attendait ça depuis 2006 date de son dernier passage dans le club Bastiais où l'aventure ne s'était pas très bien terminée. En mauvais terme avec le coach de l'époque Bernard Casoni et certains dirigeants, le joueur qui a été pré-formé à Lyon qu'il retrouvera dimanche et formé au Sporting, réalise un excellent début de saison. Pour autant, il n'entend pas s'arrêter en si bon chemin comme il le déclarait en conférence de presse.
« Globalement, je suis content mais si je commence à gamberger au bout de seulement quelques matches, je me relâche et c'est mort. J'ai tout à prouver en Ligue 1. J'ai les dents qui
rayent le parquet, je suis un mort de faim. Maintenant que j'y suis, je ne veux pas lâcher » poursuivait-il.
Multiples galères
Avant d'en arriver là, Julian Palmieri a pas mal galéré. Juste avant de commencer son tour de plusieurs clubs, il s'est retrouvé pendant six mois à remplir des cuves d'essence dans la région
Lyonnaise. Mais sa détermination lui aura permis de retrouver les terrains de football. Juste après son départ du Sporting, il met le cap en Italie grâce à son ami (et ancien bastiais) Sébastien
Piocelle qui lui permet d'intégrer le club de Crotone (Serie B italienne). Lors de la première saison il se voit sacré meilleur espoir de Série B malgré la 19e place de son club condamné à la
relégation. Un conflit avec ses dirigeants, trop gourmands concernant son indemnité de transfert (originellement de 200 000 euros, ceux-ci en demandent 700 000). Malheureusement,
au bout de quelques mois, les choses se compliquèrent. Peu enclin à poursuivre l'aventure Italienne, il ne respecte pas sa deuxième année de contrat et se verra suspendu neuf mois par l'UEFA pour
rupture unilatérale de contrat. Décidant de ne pas faire appel et de patienter, il fait son maximum pour revenir à tout prix en France : « Durant cette période, je voulais juste qu'on me
donne la possibilité de montrer ce que je savais faire pendant un an. A Bastia, on me reprochait mon manque de régularité, à Crotone, j'ai progressé puisque je suis devenu plus régulier. Je
voulais montrer que je peux réussir en France » ajoute-t-il.
Il faudra attendre quelques semaines pour que ce retour se concrétise. C'est Istres alors relégué en National qui fait appel à lui. Après une saison et demie au club, il termine champion de
National permettant ainsi à son club de retrouver le monde professionnel, avec deux buts inscrits et à égalité de passes décisives. Il est libre de tout contrat fin juin 2009. Alors en région
Parisienne, son ami de toujours Gilles Cioni faisait le forcing pour que le Paris FC engage Palmieri. Les contacts se concrétisaient et voilà le néo-Bastiais de retour dans le championnat de
National. Son aventure ne durera qu'un an, puisqu'il effectue dans la foulée son retour au FC Istres remonté depuis son dernier passage en Ligue 2.
Retour dans le club de coeur
Malgré le passé, Julian Palmieri voulait revenir à Bastia et y faire ses preuves pour faire taire certaines critiques. Il aura fallu attendre la remontée en club en Ligue 1 en 2012 pour que se
rêve devienne réalité. Cela aurait pu se faire six mois auparavant, mais la DNCG avait interdit le club Bastiais de recruter à la suite d'un problème administratif. Ainsi, depuis le mois de
juillet dernier, le jeune milieu offensif (25 ans) y est, et il s'y sent très bien, et ça se voit sur le terrain. Il effectue un très bon début de saison sous le maillot bleu à tel point qu'on
peut dire qu'il fait partie d'un des meilleurs de l'équipe. Les raisons de son choix de Bastia sont multiples : « C’est un club à part en France, pour plusieurs raisons. En raison
de son histoire déjà, des moments de joies, mais aussi tragiques qu'il l'a connu. Quand tu signes à Bastia, tu ne signes pas pour un club, des coéquipiers et des supporters, tu signes pour toute
une île, pour un peuple » poursuit-il.
« On va à Lyon avec zéro pression »
Dimanche après-midi, Julian Palmieri refoulera le pelouse de Gerland. Forcement, il aura un petit pincement au cœur. « Je suis entré à l’OL à 6 ans et demi, j’en suis parti à 14 ans.
J’ai acquis toutes mes bases footballistiques à l’OL. Comme formateurs, j’ai eu Pierre Navarro, Cyrille Dolce, Patrick Paillo. J’ai donc souvent joué avec les 87, avec Karim Benzema ou Loïc Rémy.
Pour un jeune Lyonnais, c’était une fierté de jouer dans un club professionnel, dans le meilleur club de la région. Au cours de mes huit ans à l’OL, j’ai dû rater cinq matches à Gerland, au
maximum » se remémore-t-il à la veille de la rencontre. Et lorsqu'on lui demande s'il y a un joueur qui lui plaît particulièrement à Lyon, Palmieri répond Lisandro !
« J’ai un peu le même profil de jeu que lui. Je n’ai pas ses qualités, loin de là, mais comme lui je ne lâche rien, je me bats sur tous les ballons. Je suis plus un Lisandro qu’un
Mickaël Pagis. J’apprécie également Anthony Réveillère qui est un super latéral. Il me semble que Rémi Garde effectue du bon travail à la tête du club » ajoutait-il.
Et pour confirmer sa bonne passe actuelle, le Sporting devra tenter le tout pour le tout pour accrocher un résultat à Lyon. Pour Julian Palmieri, c'est un match « compliqué, mais qu'on
abordera sans pression » ajoutait-il en conférence de presse.
La mission s'annonce clairement très difficile, mais elle était aussi il y a tout juste une semaine avant de rencontrer Bordeaux à Furiani et pourtant le Sporting avait su déjouer les
pronostics.. Alors pourquoi pas ?
